Many of you know that Charleston is flanked by two rivers; the Ashley River on the west and the Cooper River on the East. Charlestonians have been known to say (using a very “Southern accent”): “Charleston- where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet to form the Atlantic Ocean.” Not quite. But their confluence does produce the Charleston Harbor which discharges into the Atlantic.
Charleston is a wonderful place- defined by cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and its Rainbow Row of Antebellum homes. The Civil War started at Ft. Sumter. History, great dining and activities abound. It is the number one wedding destination in the country. Businesses such as Boeing, Mercedes Benz and lots of other companies make the community a great, vibrant place to live and work.
Elise and I have loved our time in Charleston-17 years now. We’ve been at 104 Church St, in the middle of the historic part of town, for 6 years. The DWM office has been on the first floor. We’ve lived on second floor. For a number of reasons, we’re ready for a new experience and hence we and the DWM office are moving over the Cooper River Bridge to Mt. Pleasant.
Specifically, Elise and I closed on our new house last week. It is in a small community of 243 acres, 5 miles from Charleston, called I’On. Founded in 1995 on a tract of “neglected fields, rusting junk and two large, muddy lakes” it has been developed into a mixed use-New Urbanist “traditional neighborhood development.” Ours is one of the 800 houses in the community.
Within the I’On community is a small commercial area with restaurants, some stores and offices. In December, when the current tenants move out, our DWM office will move to Civitas Street in I’On. It’s close for Grant and Penn and Buster Brown and I can again walk to work. It’s the first floor corner of the building below.
We have sold 104 Church St. and the closing is Friday. Our buyers are turning the first floor into residential. We hope it works out great for them.
We will be moving our office next week to a new office building in Mt. Pleasant. It's right next to Patriot’s Point (click here to view on google maps) near the Waterfront Park in Mt. Pleasant. The building is called Serendipity Labs. We’ll be here for six months:
Here are our details until early December:
DWM Financial Group, Inc. (or Detterbeck Wealth Management)
75 Port City Landing, Suite 110
Mt. Pleasant, SC
843-577-2463 (Same as before)
Serendipity Labs is a very unique space. We think we will enjoy it and be very productive while we are there. We hope all of you folks in South Carolina and beyond can visit us while we are there. We think for most of you, the Mt. Pleasant locations will be much easier to come see us. “C’mon down!”
